When Buildings Start as Data

In timber construction, a building exists as data long before it exists as a structure. Walls, roofs and ceilings are designed in CAD, translated into machine instructions, and only then cut and assembled. The quality of that data journey shapes how efficiently the building comes together.

WEINMANN, a leading manufacturer of high-performance machines for timber construction, builds the software that carries it. Its WupWorks5 application enables seamless data selection, automated CNC execution and real-time 3D process visualization. As demand for integrated, scalable production grew, WEINMANN sought a partner to modularize components, optimize real-time data orchestration and reduce system complexity.

Cadran became that partner. Through sustained engineering collaboration, we strengthened real-time data processing, 3D visualization accuracy and CNC execution reliability, creating a stable foundation for continued growth.

Real-Time 3D Visualization

A continuously updated 3D model of the workpiece keeps every processing step visible on the shop floor. Operators see exactly what the machine will do before it happens, catching deviations while they are still easy to correct. The dynamic representation turns error detection from an after-the-fact check into a live one.

Seamless Data Flow

The standardized WUP interface transfers production data directly from timber CAD programs into the machine environment. CNC programs are generated automatically with optimized tool assignments and travel paths, while the Office version allows production data to be validated before it ever reaches the shop floor.

Smart CNC Program Execution

The platform automatically generates CNC programs with optimized tool assignments for each workpiece. Tool paths are calculated to minimize travel distance and cycle time. Tool changes are sequenced to reduce downtime. And when an operator needs to modify the sequence, activating or deactivating specific processing steps, adjusting the order, or resuming after an interruption, they can do it directly through the graphical interface without editing raw CNC code.

Office Version for Pre-Production Validation

WupWorks Office lets engineers validate manufacturing data before it reaches the production floor. The office version loads the same 3D visualization and processing sequence, allowing pre-checks for data completeness, tool compatibility, and sequence logic. Errors caught in the office cost minutes. Errors caught on the machine cost hours.

A Continuous Build-Operate Cycle

Unlike a time-bounded project, the WEINMANN partnership operates as a continuous Build-Operate rhythm. New features are developed in agile sprints (Build), deployed to production, and then monitored and maintained (Operate) while the next sprint begins. The cycle never stops, because timber construction technology never stops evolving.
